Declaring Your Dreams

Well, today is a momentous day. It’s the swearing-in of the President for his historical 2nd term. It’s also the day in which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.‘s legacy is honored. As many people take this day to volunteer their time to worthy causes, and as an African-American is sworn in for the 2nd time into the highest office; a man’s dream has not only become reality, but it continues to thrive.

When I decided to make January’s motivational focus that of pursuing our dreams, I didn’t think far enough ahead to realize that MLK Day would fall on a Monday. But, it made me think about Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” speech. It’s one of the most famous speeches in history, and in that speech is the declaration of a dream. As my dad and I sat and talked about it yesterday, he said “Isn’t it amazing. I mean what could make one man think that he could change the world in the face of such adversity?”

What makes any of us feel as though we can make a change, or turn our dreams into reality; especially when their enormity is frightening. Big dreams don’t mean that they cannot be accomplished. It just means that the struggle can be harder and it may take longer before the fruition of that dream is evident. None the less, if it’s your dream, hold tight to it, declare it, fight for it, and know and believe that it will come true.
