Is 4 percent enough?

I feel like the person in the Scream painting. You know the one by Edvard Munch, where the disturbed, ghostly figure of a man is centered within a nightmarish atmosphere among a morbid background. How daunting. How disturbing. How hopeless. To me that’s what the painting conveys; but I’m no art expert, so take my criticism with a grain of salt. Anyway, that was the vision that came to my mind when I read an article stating that only 4% of your annual salary (post-taxes) is supposed to be designated toward your wardrobe.

REALLY!?!

4percent

If…

If

Meaning: I want to be sure of who I am enough to be content, but not enough that I stop learning or becoming a better person.

Charlie Tango on its way…

So recently my nephew got a remote control helicopter from his mom (my sis :)), and he is totally enthralled in its wonder. He could barely contain his anticipation as his granddad helped him assemble it before instructing him on how to use it. So now for the last few days he has been playing with his own Charlie Tango; watching it soar quickly into the air before starting its descent. He has not mastered how to manuever it through the air or how to land it properly, but still, he is quite pleased with his toy.

As I watched the excitement radiate from his adorable little face as the little helicopter lit up with red, blue, and green flashing lights it quickly made me think of the Fifty Shades Trilogy which I am currently reading (I’m on book three).

A window must be open…

Someone recently said to me, “As one door closes, something else must open. Maybe not a door, but at least a window.” The statement made me laugh because I thought I knew what was going to come next, but instead I was surprised by the different perspective that was taken. I think that my friend’s way of looking at things is pretty encouraging and optimistic. I mention this because at the beginning of my summer a lot of doors were suddenly closed. And as I press forward, looking for open doors, I have been met with some challenges. I guess I never stopped to check for any open windows 🙂 As a result, I couldn’t even wrap my mind around blogging. although there were so many topics that flooded my head, the act of sitting down to write about them seemed more like a task than a form of enjoyment. It’s been such a crazy summer, most of which is gone now. A few more weeks and we’ll be welcoming the shades of orange, red, and yellow that eagerly rush to adorn the trees. That along with cooler, bearable temperatures and early nightfall are all nature’s way of letting us know that it’s once again time for that expected change. At least we have cute fall fashion trends to look forward to. It’s all just a marker in this thing called life. Well, speaking of markers, here is one that I’d like to make note of. It has been one year since I began my blog. Despite my inconsistencies and periods of hiatus, I’m still happy and proud of the fact that I didn’t scrap the idea after a couple of months. So, do I dare make a wish…Maybe. In a year’s time, God-willing, we’ll see if it comes true 🙂

Earth Day 2012

I can’t say that I did much for my Earth Day. I’m a bit of a cartoon addict though, so I watched a couple of Captain Planet episodes today on Boomerang. It took me back to my youth. Afterwards, I watched the Spongebob episode in which he and Patrick were trying to save Bikini Bottom from major land development. I wonder if the kids even get the theme of that episode. Anyway, it got me to thinking about how important it really is to take care of this wonderful planet that we live on. After all, It’s not like we have another one we can go to. I must admit, I’m a bit of a tree hugger, and I’m not ashamed to say it. I think we need to consider the bigger picture when it comes to conservation and preservation. So, my question for you is,

Water smart way to get to work…

I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been so busy and I just couldn’t wrap my mind around anything that I really felt necessary to write about. That is until today; this morning to be even more specific. Oh what a delightful sight did mine eyes have the pleasure of seeing. I can honestly say that my drive to work has just gotten ten times better. Now I truly have something to look forward to as I prepare to take on the day and all that comes with it.
